Cake Bash is a game that involves you playing as a delicious cake, trying to be the tastiest cake to get brought by the customer. Cake Bash has two modes Get Tasty which is sort of the main mode and Recipe which allows you to play mini-games that you have unlocked via Get Tasty.
Get Tasty Mode
The Get Tasty mode is the main mode for Cake Bash, it can be played against bots or up to 3 other players online or via local couch co-op. Now the main purpose behind this mode is to become the tastiest cake to get brought by the customer.
In order to do that you will go through 4 main games and then 3 mini-games. upon completing these games you will be rewarded coins which you can then use to purchase treats to add to your cake. The more games that you win the more coins you will get to buy treats. However, as you can see from the image below, it didn’t go too well for me as i am covered in rotten fish.
When it comes to playing the game modes, the objective is to use simple combos such as hitting or charged attacks to KO your opponent, however, this is not how you win the game, rather you have simple objectives which you have to complete before the time runs out. These objectives can range from throwing fruit into a bowl or hold onto a sparkler for as long as possible to accumulate points.
Each game mode feels different from one another, not only that but the maps that they are played on changes how you play the game from beach balls flying onto the map out of nowhere or a pigeon coming down and pecking you. It really is a blast to play.
When it comes to the game modes you have the option to pick from 2 game modes, when playing against bots, it comes down to whatever one you vote for, whereas playing online or co-op will come down to the mode or map which gets the most votes.
Recipe Mode allows you to play any of the games you have unlocked while playing the Get Tasty Mode.
Now, unfortunately, this mode is not available to play online, so you can only play against bots or local co-op which is a shame as it would have been nice to jump into some mini-games with some random players online.
One of my favourite mini-games and should be a game within its self is Fork Knife, which is like a battle Royale that has you dodging knives and forks as they come raining down or flying across the map. Not only that but the map is breaking apart which starts limiting your space to run. It really can become hectic very fast.
Now, unfortunately, Recipe mode does require you to play Get Tasty in order to unlock all the modes, which kind of comes down to RNG, as i have been playing this game for a while now and i am still missing some game modes, which i can not just quickly jump into due to not yet unlocking them via the Get Tasty mode.
You have a bunch of Tasty characters to choose from, which is then brought to life with stick arms and legs. Each character with there own little charm to them.
Not only that but you can also unlock different variants of each character by completing certain objectives while playing certain game modes, for example, “Stack 10 ice cream scoops in Neapolitan” Which we managed to do and have now unlocked “Icie”.
As you can see from the image below there is a lot of different flavours to unlock. Giving you something to focus on.
Overall Cake Bash is a beautiful treat, that combines fun and cuteness together to create this really fun game that can be amazing to play with friends either online or on the couch.
The only thing i would have like to of seen is a bit more content, as i feel after playing for a while it can become a bit repetitive, however, you have plenty of flavours and achievements to unlock, which should keep you busy for a bit.
