When Stadia was first announced Google mentioned a feature called “Crowd Play” now we did cover it in this article here. However, we will just give you a quick rundown of what Crowd Play is. So if you are watching your favourite streamer on YouTube playing a game on Stadia, you can join in there game by clicking “Join This Game” And you will either be joined straight into there game (you must own the game in order to use this feature) Or you will get placed in a queue. Check out the video down below showing Crowd Play:
Now this feature like many others has been missing from Google Stadia but we could see it come soon, as the developers behind Get Packed, during an interview with WccfTech, was asked: “Was Stadia a great environment to work with from a developer’s point of view?” Now what is interesting is they went over Crowd Play and how they can’t wait to see the gaming community grow alongside it. Here is the response to the question:
That’s one of the big reasons, and also being able to have Get Packed streamed and have the streaming options for viewers and content creators using the YouTube platform. Features such as Crowd Play make it very easy for content creators to interact more with viewers and with the games video content market being so big and growing all the time, having those options available really can be very powerful. And I’m very interested to see how the gaming community kind of grows alongside it and what kind of potential opportunities that provides them and how it kind of shifts. It’s certainly been touted as perhaps a pioneering piece of gaming technology that could lead to the future of gaming and being part of that, right from the beginning, is very exciting.
Now I’m not sure if they have been able to test Crowd Play and Google has told them that it is going to release soon or if they just meant that they cant wait to see players use Crowd Play when Google releases it further down the line. Either way, it is very interesting. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below. If you enjoyed this article, why not share it on social media.
